Plan Description

A turn-of-the-century home demands a romantic landscape to adorn it. Decorative fencing, old-fashioned plants, and stately shade trees do just that in this picture-perfect plan. To get the most out of relaxing on the porch and enjoying the view, only low-growing perennials and ground covers are planted in front. When summer breezes stir, the fragrance of the flowers planted among the ground covers perfume the porch. The driveway provides easy access to the garage and extra parking area, directing guests to the front door. A weeping tree--a favorite Victorian specimen--obscures the service entrance in front from the main walk and drive, although it is easily accessible by a narrow walk. Leading through the pretty planting bed in front of the garage, stone pavers allow family members to walk directly from the drive to a side door. The semicircular garden bed hugging the driveway repeats the curves of the drive, walk, and porch. The designer intentionally leaves out lawn in this area in order to create a tapestry of colorful flowers and foliage from small shrubs, perennials, and ground cover. By using decorative fencing in this bed, and repeating it on both sides of the driveway, the designer skillfully carries the detail from the house's woodwork to the garden. For privacy, a screen of evergreen trees and tall flowering shrubs border the length of the driveway. Three large trees shading the house evoke the feeling of Main Street USA, just what you might expect if this house were an original Victorian. Also shown here is home plan HPB645 by Home Planners. A vintage house, such as this one, needs an old-fashioned landscape. Here, a romantic front landscape creates the perfect image of country serenity.
