Pueblo houses, sometimes called adobes, are characterized by flat roofs, stepped levels, massive earth-colored stucco or adobe-brick walls highlighted by parapets with round edges, and heavy timbers that project through the wall to support the roof. The exterior of the home features walls that are smooth and simple with straight-edge framed deep windows. The interior of the Pueblo house plan may feature unpainted wood columns, benches that protrude from the walls, and poles placed in angled pattern on the ceiling. The floors of the Pueblo house plan are usually fashioned from flagstone, tile, brick, or wood. Eco-friendly and comfortable with its closed patios, flat roofs and organic walls, the Pueblo home is suited for the dry climates of the Southwest.
