Universal design is the wheelchair-friendly practice of designing a home plan to meet the needs of aging and/or physically challenged occupants - is becoming more and more important, driven by demographic trends. Homes for the aging Baby Boomer population will require attention to their physical comforts, particularly with the "aging in place" movement gaining popularity. Demands for wider doors and hallways, easier-to-operate latches and appliances, and user-friendly bathrooms and kitchens will continue to grow - and eplans' Universal Design home plans collection will grow right along with them.
This collection of house plans embraces the principles of universal design. Residential architects represented here take universal design plans from the realms of theory and create home layouts and amenities that make the home easier to live in for aging and physically challenged occupants. It's not all that surprising: after all, "universal" design principles of easy access and operation are "good" general home design - and good design is what you can expect from eplans.
