The two-story square-shaped Tidewater home plan, which originated near Southern waterways, is designed with a central entrance that leads to the traditional hall-and-parlor floor plan. Tidewater house plans, with their distinctive abundant windows and doors and large shade porches, were built to co-exist with the Southern marshy climates. To prevent flooding, particularly in the waterway regions, the home is often raised and resting on piers.
